Maria Rui Sousa is an integrated member of the research group NursID of CINTESIS, based at ESEP, where she is an Assistant Professor.

She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Sciences from the University of Porto in 2015, her Master Degree in Education with a specialization in Health Education from the University of Minho, in 2014, and graduated in Nursing from the Nursing School of Porto. As a nurse, she worked at the Hospital of São João and at the Júlio Dinis Maternity Hospital.

She is a member of the General Council of ESEP and of the Association for Family Planning, and founded the Júlio Dinis Mother and Child Health Association. She has two books published, as well as book chapters and scientific articles in her fields of interest.
